Halite Energy is seeking permission to carry out a seismic survey of the Preesall salt field. One of the UK’s leading geophysical contractors, Derbyshire-based TESLA Exploration International Ltd, has been contracted by Halite to undertake the work.
Subject to permissions from statutory consultees and agreements with tenants and landowners, it is anticipated that the survey will begin in August and last for around four weeks.
Halite is commissioning the seismic survey as part of its ongoing project development.
Seismic surveys are a widely used pre-construction technique to image the underground geology of an area. Supplemented with the geological data already produced for their latest application, this information will allow Halite’s world-class geology team to determine the exact locations of the caverns in the Preesall salt field.
During the survey period around 30-40 members of Tesla’s team will be on site. The company adheres to strict health and safety standards to ensure the operation is safe to members of the public.
Prior to the tests commencing, notices will be placed in local newspapers and residents who live near the survey site will receive a leaflet explaining the process in more detail.
